So Barcelona never really had a strategy for transfers this summer then? Ernesto Valverde it seems just had a pile of cash and the phone numbers of most of Europe's top clubs.
For weeks Barcelona have been desperately pursuing a move for Philippe Coutinho and for the entire Liverpool have been unmoved in their belief that he's not for sale.
Even the 150 million euros that Barcelona are apparently willing to hand over for the former Inter man isn't enough to make Jurgen Klopp say yes to the prospect of selling.

So Barca decided to spend that money elsewhere and finally managed to bring Borussia Dortmund's Ousmane Dembele to the club on Friday.
But he's not been the only target and the La Liga club have also been linked with Angel di Maria and Jean Seri amongst others.
And apparently Dembele wasn't the only forward they were in the market for either with reports in Italy, via Calcio News 24, suggesting the club made a €100 Million offer for Lorenzo Insigne this week.

The Napoli forward has been highly rated for a number of years and the light blues have so far done very well to keep hold of him.
Needless to say the offer for the Italian was turned down by the Serie A club who wouldn't want to lose their player at the best of times, especially just as the season has started.

Barcelona have had a mixed start to the season since losing Neymar to PSG for £198 million.
Ernesto Valverde's side didn't look up to scratch in their two losses against Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercopa with their rivals well ahead in terms of quality.
They started the league season with a win however and Gerard Deulofeu looked decent on his return to the Camp Nou.
