Arsenal Set To Bid For Former Transfer Target

Arsenal Set To Bid For Former Transfer Target

Arsene Wenger has a history of missing out on transfer targets but that hasn't put him off going back in for one he's already failed with.

Arsene Wenger can recite the list of players he's missed out on as easily as that friend who likes to remind you which girls he's slept, only Wenger has messed up long before getting into anyone's knickers. Now the Frenchman is trying again to hook up with one of those players.

Personally I can sympathise with Arsene and a list of women I've not slept with is a much longer and accomplished list than the other list- you know, miss out on Zlatan and sign Yaya Sanogo (I don't mean that really, they were all lovely transfers who I'm very grateful they allowed me to sign them. Wait, I didn't pay!)

Sanogo and Zlatan might not be comparable in terms of when they signed/might have signed for the Gunners but the point remains. Image: PA

So now that I'm finished confusing all my metaphors up we can get back to the matter at hand. Old 'Wengs' has been as quick as anyone to tell us about the times he could have signed someone before going on to watch them be brilliant elsewhere.

Back in January Arsenal missed out on a player for the second time in his career when Julian Draxler moved from Wolfsburg to PSG, having missed out on the German when he moved from Schalke to Wolfsburg in 2015.

According to The Times the French club have decided that Draxler is no longer needed after the signing of Neymar, you may have heard about it, and Arsenal are ready to renew their interest.

Despite making a decent start to life in the French capital, following his £35.5 million move just seven months ago, it seems that the 23 year-old isn't needed with the likes of Angel di Maria and Lucas Moura able to play on the wings, as well as Neymar.

The report also says that Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are looking at moves for the player with the latter potentially losing Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona, with the Catalan's looking to replace the man who moved to Parc de Paris in a never ending circle.

The circle of transfers would really be complete if Dembele went to the Camp Nou and Draxler replaced him. Image: PA

A move for Draxler could of course be as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who has been wanted by Manchester City, Bayern Munich and PSG all season but the Gunners have so far not signed.

Can Wenger finally get Draxler into bed?
