Toby Alderweireld's Social Media Activity Will Please Manchester United Fans

The January transfer window is just over two weeks away and Toby Alderweireld has sparked chatter amongst Manchester United fans after his social media activity made them believe he could be headed to Old Trafford.

Christmas Day is just 10 days away and we'll all soon be rushing down the stairs in excitement to grab our presents from under the tree and rip them open. I mean that might not be how it works but I'm Jewish so only have films to go off.

For football managers though their Christmas Day of receiving presents comes in the month of January as they hope to get a shiny new player from their chairman or director of football.

Lord knows Jose Mourinho might not have been a good boy this year but he's really hoping Santa, played by Ed Woodward, delivers him a centre back or two in the winter transfer window.

The Manchester United boss was desperate to sign an experienced defender in the summer but the club wouldn't sanction a move, as the Premier League side were linked with everyone.

One of Mourinho's biggest targets was Spurs' Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian is available for around £25 million in the summer so the north London club could decide to cash in on him for more in January.

And Alderweireld poured oil on the flames on Friday when one United account spotted that he'd liked a post on Twitter linking him with the move, he's since unliked it:

Of course it could just be that the 29 year old just really likes the idea of Kalidou Koulibaly moving to Old Trafford or possibly Spurs teammate Danny Rose, both of whom were included in the tweet.

United's most recent January transfer was last season's move for Alexis Sanchez and it's fair to say that didn't go too well but based on their current defensive problems it's unlikely any signing would be worse than what they've currently got.

Alderweireld has started 14 of Spurs 16 Premier League games this season and Mauricio Pochettino's side currently sit three places and 10 points above Mourinho's.

Would he swap third for sixth in January or was it just an accidental like from the defender?
