One Premier League club has reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

Sporting Clube de Portugal talisman Gyokeres is one of the most talked about players in European football.

The 26-year-old has been in prolific form in the 24/25 season so far, having notched 27 goals and recorded five assists in 26 matches across all competitions for Sporting.

As a result of his impressive form, Gyokeres has been linked with a host of different clubs from around the continent, including the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain.

However, it has now been claimed that one Premier League side will no longer be in the race to sign the Swedish international.

As reported by Caught Offside, Arsenal are said to have decided against signing Gyokeres and have opted to battle PSG for the signature of a Serie A star.

It has been suggested that Arsenal and PSG are keeping a close eye on Atalanta's highly-rated 25-year-old forward, Mateo Retegui.

Retegui has so far netted 14 goals across all competitions and is currently the top scorer in Serie A with 12.

As per Transfermarkt, Retegui has a market value of €35 million, which is considerably less than Gyokeres' €75 million.

Arsenal will be back in Premier League action on Friday night when they take on Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the match, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: "I make sure that we utilise every player in the best possible potential. Everyone has to feel part of it.

"You need to rediscover players in different positions, relationships. It’s a great one. It’s a really good exercise and the boys are willing to do anything we demand them to do. That’s a really good thing as well."

The Gunners are currently third in the Premier League table, two points behind Chelsea and six points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
