A respected journalist has revealed three out of the four sides chasing Sporting Clube de Portugal striker Viktor Gyokeres are Premier League outfits as the latest team to join the race has been named.

Gyokeres is one of the most highly sought after strikers in European football and is expected to move on to pastures new this summer, with a clause of between €60m to €70m allowing the striker to leave the Portuguese capital.

The 26-year-old joined Sporting in 2023 from Coventry City for €20m and has gone on to score a remarkable 95 goals in 98 games across all competitions, including 52 strikes in 48 outings this campaign.

Gyokeres was coached at Sporting by Ruben Amorim, who has since become head coach at Manchester United after he replaced the sacked Erik ten Hag.

Given the Old Trafford club's struggles to score goals this season and the lack of an experienced centre forward at the club, it has been no surprise to see United mentioned as one of the sides interested in Gyokeres' services, and the prospect of Amorim reuniting with his former striker.

Florian Plettenberg, a respected journalist for Sky Sports Germany, has mentioned that United, as well as Chelsea and Real Madrid are among potential suitors for the Sweden international, who has also scored 15 goals in 26 caps for his country.

Posting on social media platform X, Plettenberg mentions that German giants Bayern Munich are currently 'out of the race' for signing Gyokeres due to the striker being too expensive.

But the Sky Sports Germany journalist reports that Arsenal are also in the race for Gyokeres and that sporting director Andrea Berta is 'pushing' to bring the Sporting striker to Mikel Arteta's side, who like United are in need of reinforcements upfront.

The Gunners are also interested in bringing Newcastle United striker Aleksander Isak - Gyokeres' international team-mate - but that the Magpies forward would prove to be an expensive signing to take him to a Premier League rival.

Plettenberg wrote: "Andrea Berta is pushing to sign Viktor Gyokeres for Arsenal. Several talks have already taken place. Alexander Isak remains high on the Gunners’ list, as previously revealed — but he’s very expensive.

"Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid are all in the race. No commitments yet. Everything is still open. Bayern are currently out — too expensive.

"As exclusively revealed in October, Gyokeres can leave Sporting this summer for €60–70 million, due to a verbal agreement between the player and the club."
