Timo Werner's stance on joining Man Utd revealed as Erik ten Hag 'plots shock January move for Chelsea flop'

He had made his stance clear.

Timo Werner’s stance on joining Manchester United has been revealed.

According to Sky Germany, the former Chelsea forward has emerged as a surprise target for United heading into the New Year.

While no offer has been made nor have negotiations taken place, the Old Trafford club are said to have enquired about Werner’s availability.

However, Sky Germany has since claimed that Werner is prepared to stay at RB Leipzig and fight for his place rather than move to United in the January window.

Werner, who has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid, scored 16 goals in his first season back at Leipzig but has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this term.

The Germany international has been handed just three starts in all competitions, netting two goals in the process.

And while Werner is said to not be satisfied with his situation, United have allegedly already been informed the forward’s preference is to remain at the club and force his way back into the team.

Werner is best known among Premier League audiences for his ill-fated two-year spell at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022, where he scored just 23 goals in 89 appearances, and claimed 21 assists.

While United secured their biggest win of the season in their 3-0 victory over Everton on Sunday, they have struggled in front of goal this term with just 16 scored in 13 league games. Such a return makes them the lowest goal scorers in the Premier League’s top 10.

The Old Trafford club have been widely reported to be keen to bolster their forward line, with £72million summer signing Rasmus Hojlund having failed to get off the mark in the Premier League.

Hojlund, who has claimed five Champions League goals, missed the win at Goodison Park after suffering a hamstring injury before the international break.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 times last season, has scored just twice this season, as has Anthony Martial.
