Real Madrid have reached an agreement with a star player in the wake of their crushing Champions League defeat to Liverpool.

Real dropped points in the Champions League for the first time this season following their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Alexis Mac Allister headed home his side's winner in the 61st minute to secure all three points in the league phase.

Liverpool were solid at the back as Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate helped their team keep a clean sheet against a side that included Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.

Konate, who is out of contract next summer, impressed amid speculation linking him with a move to Real, who are on the hunt for a new centre-back.

They are exploring their options, with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger expected to leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Real have set their sights on Konate, who will be available on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool have yet to reach an agreement over a contract extension, with the Frenchman thought to be keen on a move to the Spanish giants.

However, according to Foot Mercato, Konate is no longer the focus of Real, who have identified another centre-back.

The report claims Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano is now the club's top priority.

He is out of contract in June and the report claims a verbal agreement with Real has already been reached.

Given his profile and experience, along with the fact that he will be a free agent at the end of the season, Upamecano fits the bill as an ideal signing.

He also has the advantage of knowing several French players at Real, including Mbappe and Eduardo Camavinga.

Xabi Alonso also knows him very well from his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

Upamecano is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who are monitoring his situation closely.

He also has a contract extension offer from Bayern but there is no agreement in place.

The 27-year-old has been at Bayern since the summer of 2021 following his move from RB Leipzig.

He has played 166 matches across all competitions for the German giants, including 14 appearances this season.

Upamecano started in his side's 2-1 victory over PSG on Tuesday.
