Two Premier League clubs want to sign Antony in January as shock new team enters race for Man Utd flop

The Manchester United winger is the club's second most expensive player ever but he could be set for an exit from the club.

Two Premier League sides are interested in signing Manchester United winger Antony ahead of the January transfer window.

Antony signed for United from Ajax for a reported fee of £86 million in the summer of 2022 and became the second most expensive United signing ever in the process behind Paul Pogba.

With the price tag seemingly weighing heavy on his shoulders since his arrival, the 24-year-old has never been able to put together a consistent run of good form.

A return of five goals in 56 Premier League appearances has seen him mostly used as a substitute, with just two league appearances this term.

Erik ten Hag’s recent team selections have suggested Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Amad are all above Antony in the pecking order.

With his time possibly up at United, two other English sides are reportedly interested.

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are said to be keen to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window with a loan move likely for the Brazilian, according to Caught Offside.

However, the winger is thought to be keen on leaving the Premier League entirely.

Antony was linked with a summer switch to La Liga side Real Betis in August but no such deal materialised. Turkish side Fenerbahçe were also thought to be keen on a deal.

In May 2024, Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso insisted his client was to stay and fight for his place in Ten Hag’s side.

“I see reports about potential exit on loan,” he told journalist Fabrizio Romano.

“Antony’s plan is clear: Manchester United. He wants to stay, he’s only focused on Man United. We already spoke about that with the club."

Fast forward to last month, and United boss Ten Hag explained how Antony was becoming “impatient” following United’s 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

The Brazilian scored a penalty in the game but was left out for the following Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.

"He wants to play,” said Ten Hag.

"But in top football, there are laws. You pick the team that has most chance to win the game, the one with the best dynamic, the best chemistry. Players have to fight for their positions.

"The other players are doing so well, they're contributing.

"He has to get over them. He has to earn the right in training."
