The Dane completed his medical on Thursday and sealed a £72million move from Atalanta.

Hojlund put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

The deal for 20-year-old is worth an initial £64million, plus £8million in performance-related add-ons. Atalanta went into negotiations wanting £77million guaranteed.

The Italian journalist tweeted: "Rasmus Hojlund has just signed his five year contract with option for further year as new Manchester United player.

"Done, sealed."

Hojlund could be unveiled during United's friendly with Lens on Saturday. United also face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, which may give the forward the opportunity to feature in the Old Trafford club's final pre-season game.

United's incoming business is said to be predominantly over, with further moves likely to depend on departures. The likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Fred and Donny van de Beek have all been linked with transfers away.

And should the exits go through, United are understood to be ready to go into the market to replace them, with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat believed to be a primary target.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "They are really hot on this deal, I think they will keep pushing this to make it happen because there seems more intent than any time up to now.

"There is still the Atletico Madrid factor to fend off but United want to make Amrabat their next signing after Hojlund and if they can pull that off it’s going to be a real accomplishment.

"United’s transfer window was redefined over the course of July and now August will be used to put the finishing touches to the deals and glam up the squad. I’m told there is evert confidence that can make the numbers work on this one, so it’s a pretty exciting time."
