Man United have ‘player plus cash offer for Rasmus Hojlund rejected by Atalanta’

Manchester United are targeting a new striker in the summer transfer window

Manchester United have reportedly had a player plus cash offer for Rasmus Hojlund rejected by Serie A side Atalanta.

After a largely successful first season in charge of United, Erik ten Hag is hoping to build a squad capable of challenging the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City again.

It has been widely reported that United will look to add a new striker to their ranks in a bid to ease the burden on Marcus Rashford.

Over the last few weeks, it is believed that United are targeting Atalanta’s Hojlund.

According to The Athletic, United have had a player plus cash offer for the 20-year-old rejected.

The report claims that Atalanta rejected the bid out of hand and have made it clear they only want a cash-only deal.

Whilst the player included in the deal was not named, the likes of Fred, Harry Maguire and Donny van de Beek have all been linked with moves away from Old Trafford this summer.

It has been reported that Atalanta are seeking a transfer fee of around £86 million for the talented Danish striker.

So far, United have only managed to secure the signature of England international midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Last week, United reportedly had a bid rejected for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana but it is believed that the two clubs will be able to find an agreement soon.

On Wednesday afternoon, United kicked off their pre-season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Leeds United.

After the victory, Ten Hag said: “It’s the first game and I think we have seen some good things. We’ve already trained over the last year, so we have a good foundation. You can see that in the game.

“But yeah, also some young lads came in and they fit in. We are now one week [into] training. We presented the rules and the principles. And what I see, what can I say: we have seen some good stuff.”

On Mount’s debut, Ten Hag added: “Oh [he was] great, but we could expect this. He has so many skills and I'm sure we will take so much joy from him. He will contribute to our performance, absolutely.”
