Liverpool are eyeing up a huge January move for Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane, according to a new report.

According to the Daily Mirror, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has identified the 27-year-old as a possible replacement for Mohamed Salah, should he leave for the Saudi Pro League.

The Merseysiders would be willing to break their club record fee in order to bring the German international to Anfield, with Sane having left Manchester City back in 2020.

Liverpool did reject an offer said to be in the region of £200 million in the summer, with the 31-year-old staying put.

Al Ittihad felt it was too late in the window to test Liverpool's resolve with an even bigger bid, but could return for the Egyptian in January.

Salah still has 18 months left on his current deal at Anfield.

Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo is still confident that Salah will be added to the vast array of European talent to make a move to the Middle East.

He said (via London Evening Standard): "Mo is welcome at any time. Mo is my personal favourite. There are many world-class players showing interest. It's a place where you can go and have fun and definitely improve their economics."

On the other hand, Sane is much younger than Salah and has already achieved the same level of success at club level with Bayern Munich.

The former City star moved from the Premier League to Germany three years ago for a fee though to be in the region of £55milion and has continued to impress alongside summer signing Harry Kane.

Apparently after years of negotiation, Salah signed a new contract with Liverpool last year.

He has seven goals in 11 games this season for Thomas Tuchel's side, including the opening goal in Bayern's 4-3 win over Manchester United last month.

Liverpool's current record transfer fee is £85 million, as they brought in forward Darwin Nunez from Benfica in the summer of 2022.
