Liverpool transfer to help Premier League title charge could be scuppered by former Man Utd and Chelsea star

Liverpool transfer to help Premier League title charge could be scuppered by former Man Utd and Chelsea star

Liverpool's transfer business could be hampered by a former Chelsea and Manchester United star

Liverpool could see a potential transfer scuppered by a former Chelsea and Manchester United star.

It has been a promising season so far for Liverpool as they currently sit top of the Premier League table, five points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are also gunning for three other trophies, having secured a place in the Carabao Cup final this week. Liverpool will take on Norwich City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, they are also through to the last 16 in the Europa League.

With the January transfer window in full swing, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Fluminense’s Andre, who could be the one to solve the Reds’ central defensive midfield problem.

With Wataru Endo involved in the Asia Cup with Japan, the Reds are lacking options in that area of the pitch.

However, Liverpool’s hopes of landing the 22-year-old could be dashed due to former Chelsea and United star Nemanja Matic.

According to French news outlet L’Equipe, Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais are considering a move for Andre as their pursuit of Matic is looking increasingly unlikely.

Over the last few weeks, Andre has been linked with a move away from Brazil with the likes of Liverpool, Fulham and now Lyon all said to be interested.

The report stated that Lyon could move for Andre before the end of the transfer window.

However, it has been claimed that the €30 million price tag could prove to be a big problem for the French side.

Speaking in November, Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz spoke about Andre’s future, he said: “André’s departure is imminent, and they are two players who were trained at Fluminense and who have had very good times here at the club.

“Apart from them, we have other possibilities, but I think they’re players I’m counting on a lot for next year.”
