Lionel Messi has been told he would help a team win the league title if he signed for them in a transfer that would send shockwaves through Europe.

Messi is under contract with Inter Miami until the end of 2025 after penning a lucrative deal in the summer of 2023.

He joined the MLS side from Paris Saint-Germain after ending his legendary association with Barcelona, where he won four Champions League titles.

Before signing for PSG from Barca, Messi was linked with several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester City.

A move to England seems to have passed him by but the Argentine has been told that he could help deliver Arsenal their first Premier League title since 2004 if he joined the North London outfit.

That's according to talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein, who believes Messi could solve Arsenal's issues up front as they remain hellbent on signing a No.9 this summer.

"You know what, I think if he plays up top for Arsenal, he wins them the Premier League," he said.

"I genuinely do. If you've got Messi scoring goals, I think he wins them [the title]. Where's their weakness, Arsenal? It's probably the lack of a No.9.

"Kai Havertz isn't the answer."

Goldstein added: "I know he's not [a No.9]. But he could still do that job. I think if Messi went to Arsenal, they'd win the Premier League."

Jason Cundy weighed in as he bemoaned Messi's transfer to PSG in the summer of 2021.

Asked if he should have joined the Premier League, he replied: "It was so right for that particular little portal for him to come to the most watched league in the world. He went to PSG. Bore off."

Messi has never played in the Premier League, but he has come up against several English clubs during his career.

And he has tormented the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea over the years.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has played 36 games against Premier League's 'Big Six' and he has enjoyed great success, scoring an impressive 27 goals and registering six assists.

Messi signing for a Premier League club appears unlikely if he decides to prolong his iconic career once his existing deal comes to an end.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are in the market for a new forward, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres believed to be on their radar.
