Kylian Mbappe reportedly reached an agreement to sign for a Premier League club well before his move to Real Madrid.

This summer, after months of speculation, it was confirmed that Mbappe had finally secured a move to Madrid on the back of leaving French giants Paris Saint Germain.

After the transfer was announced, the Frenchman wrote on social media: “Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can't wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!”

However, a new report this week has claimed that the 25-year-old reached a verbal agreement to join Premier League giants Liverpool back in 2022.

As reported by French news outlet L’Equipe, Liverpool offered a huge bid of €200 million to sign Mbappe.

The forward is believed to have reached a verbal agreement to move to Anfield on the condition that he would be allowed to join Madrid in the future.

However, the report claimed that Liverpool were told to double their bid, which led to negotiations breaking down.

It was added that a source close to the Parc des Princes club denied the story, arguing that Liverpool could not have the funds to sign Mbappe.

Back in 2020, Mbappe was full of praise for Liverpool, he said: “This season, Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League. They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy.

“Performances, like they have been having, don't just happen. To be as ruthless as they have been would come from lots of hard work in training and from having a very good manager.”

Speaking about Mbappe previously, then Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: “If Liverpool would be the club with endless money, you can spend what you want.

“Kylian Mbappe comes here, Bellingham comes here, Haaland comes here. It doesn’t fit, it’s not us. It is not us. That’s how it is.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s former director of research Ian Graham told The Guardian last year: “Any statistical model will tell you that Kylian Mbappe is the best player in Europe at the moment.

“But unfortunately, financially, he’s out of Liverpool’s league. We’re looking for the best-performing players per pound.”
