Kalvin Phillips 'agrees' Man City departure as Premier League club win race for his signature

Kalvin Phillips is set to leave Manchester City ahead of the new Premier League season.

Kalvin Phillips is 'on the brink' of joining a Premier League club in what is being called a 'statement signing'.

Phillips has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer following an underwhelming campaign last season.

He played just four league games for Man City before signing for West Ham United on loan in January.

But the 28-year-old failed to make an impression with the Hammers, making only eight league appearances during his time at the London Stadium.

Phillips had featured for the Blues in pre-season, but he's closing in on a switch ahead of the new season getting underway.

According to The Telegraph, he's on the verge of agreeing a season-long loan deal to Ipswich Town.

The deal does not include an option to buy the midfielder.

If Ipswich can get the transfer cross the line, then it would be a major coup for the newly-promoted side, who finished behind Leicester City in the Championship last season.

He would be the second player to arrive from Man City following the transfer of Liam Delap, who joined the club in a transfer worth £20 million.

The Tractor Boys have also recruited the likes of Ben Johnson, Jacob Greaves and Omari Hutchinson, who signed for the club on a permanent deal following his loan spell last season.

Phillips, meanwhile, transferred to Man City from Leeds United in the summer of July 2022 for a fee of £42 million.

He's made 31 appearances across all competitions since signing for the club.

Speaking about Phillips in pre-season, Pep Guardiola was unsure whether he'd remain at Man City.

"We'll see," he said. "He's training really well, he made a really good first half against Celtic. He came from an injury, that's why we didn't want to give him more minutes. But we'll see, he knows the situation."
