Manchester United YouTuber Mark Goldbridge explained why Harry Kane would not have beaten the top scorer record even if he had stayed at Tottenham.

Kane has secured a move to Bayern Munich worth around £100million, with the England international set to make his debut for the Bundesliga club in Saturday’s Germany Super Cup encounter against RB Leipzig.

The Spurs legend, who has signed a four-year deal with the Bavarian giants, said: "I'm very happy to be a part of FC Bayern now. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I've always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career.

"This club is defined by its winning mentality - it feels very good to be here."

Kane won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions at Spurs, while his 213 Premier League goals see him just 48 strikes shy of Alan Shearer's all-time league record tally.

And despite having suitors from across the continent, many thought Harry Kane would choose to stay at Tottenham or sign for a Premier League rival in the hope of surpassing Shearer’s record.

However, prominent United supporter Goldbridge explained why Shearer’s 260-goal haul is redundant.

Goldbridge on Shearer record

Goldbridge insisted that Shearer’s record does not count as the Premier League is merely a “rebrand” of Division One.

According to Goldbridge, Kane would have needed to surpass Jimmy Greaves' 357 goals to break the top-flight record. While Kane reaching that tally would not have been beyond the realms of possibility, it would have been a far taller order.

Goldbridge explained on Twitter (X): “The Premier League is just a rebrand of the old Division One.

“It's like changing your shirt sponsor. So this "Shearer" goal record Kane had to consider is nonsense anyway.

“The actual top scorer of all time is Jimmy Greaves with 357 in 516 top-flight games beating Shearer's 283.”
