David de Gea is inching closer to signing for a new club after leaving Manchester United.

Spaniard De Gea has been without a club since he left United at the end of the 22/23 season.

When announcing his departure from Old Trafford, De Gea wrote: “I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters.

"I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club. I took incredible pride everytime I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.”

He added: "Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings.

Since leaving the Red Devils, the Spaniard has been linked with a host of different teams including clubs in the Saudi Professional League.

However, no moves materialised and De Gea spent the 23/24 season without a club.

On Thursday, it was reported that Serie A side Fiorentina were holding talks to sign the goalkeeper, who is a free agent.

Later in the evening, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media: “David de Gea to Fiorentina, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for former #MUFC goalkeeper. Contract until June 2025 plus option for one more season. Travel & medical booked.

“Deal done by Spanish agents Jose Lorenzo, Jose Carlos and Italian intermediaries GG11 Agency.”

During his time with United, De Gea won one Premier League title, one FA Cup, two League Cups, three FA Community Shields and one UEFA Europa League.
