Chelsea 'open talks' for striker who is better than Erling Haaland and Mo Salah in one key area this season

Chelsea are on the hunt for a striker this January with negotiations reportedly already underway.

Chelsea are looking to bolster their attacking options this January and they could have identified the perfect striker to solve their issues in front of goal.

It's no secret that Chelsea have been struggling for goals this season, with consistent doubts over the credentials of summer signing Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson has seven Premier League goals so far this term which, on a surface level, perhaps doesn't seem too alarming.

However, considering the correlation between Chelsea's league position and investment, Todd Boehly will have been expecting an awful lot more from the striker.

The London club's pursuit of a new forward has led them to a La Liga forward, with El Nacional reporting that they have entered negotiations over the signing of Ukrainian forward Artem Dovbyk.

The Girona striker has been a sensation in the Spanish top flight this season as he averages a goal or assist at a higher rate than Erling Haaland and Mo Salah with 1.3 per 90.

Only Harry Kane, Denis Undav, Kylian Mbappe, and Serhou Guirassy have a better record across Europe this season.

Dovbyk has scored 11 league goals so far and was named La Liga player of the month for December ahead of Jude Bellingham.

The report states that Chelsea will be willing to pay €40 million for his signature this month, at the direct request of boss Mauricio Pochettino.

It is understood that Pochettino believes he could create a dangerous partnership between Dovbyk and Mudryk, with the pair proving an effective duo for the Ukrainian national team.

Mudryk, like Jackson, has also received his fair share of critics since his move to Stamford Bridge but recently has started to string together some improved performances.

Mudryk was a huge investment for Chelsea and therefore any way to get the best out of him should be at the top of the club's list of priorities.

Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League but have a favourable draw against Middlesborough in the Carabao Cup semi-final and remain in the FA Cup.

Despite a disappointing return so far this season, Chelsea are beginning to find their feet and the introduction of a player like Dovbyk could be the final piece of the jigsaw for Boehly's project.
