Tottenham Hotspur were smashed by Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon

Fans are claiming that Harry Kane was saying goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur fans after their defeat by Newcastle United in the Premier League.

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs arrived at St. James’ Park looking to close the gap to the Magpies in the race for top four.

However, Spurs produced a dismal performance as they found themselves 5-0 down after 21 minutes.

Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy both scored twice whilst Joelinton was also on the scoresheet.

Kane pulled one back before Callum Wilson sealed a 6-1 win. Kane was captured clapping Spurs fans after the match, which has got fans talking. You can watch the footage below.

Whilst some praised him for showing leadership skills, others stated that he was saying goodbye amid speculation that he could leave Spurs in the summer.

One fan said: “He knows he only has 6 more games to put up with it all.”

Another tweeted: “He's saying goodbye.”

A third fan added: “Probably saying his goodbyes….”

Over the last few months, Kane has been linked with a move away from Spurs, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea said to be interested in the England captain.

On the back of their horror show against Newcastle, the future of caretaker boss Cristian Stellini is reportedly under threat.

After the match on Sunday, the Italian said: “We were not prepared enough to play an important match. We have a good squad, but [on Sunday] no one showed how good they are.
