N'Golo Kante was injured for Chelsea's draw with Sheffield United at the weekend but it did allow the midfielder to attend the wedding of a fan, after he originally rejected the invite.

The midfielder's ankle injury, which kept him out of the 2-2 draw with the Blades, is also keeping him out of international duty with France and that meant he was able to change his plans.

Kante had to turn down the invite to Henna Khalid and Raheel Malik's wedding initially, after the father of the bride, Frank Khalid, but ended up attending.

Speaking to the Sun, Frank explained how it came about, saying, "We became friends when I was introduced to him by a friend and he came to my restaurant Chak89.

"I invited him and originally he couldn't attend because of his commitment to the French national team, but because of his injury he messaged me saying he was coming.

"My family and myself are very close to N'Golo and he was one of the first people to visit me when I had my triple bypass surgery operation in April 2018.

"He stayed till the end and was so nice to everyone and signed autographs and took selfies with the guests."

Further praising the World Cup winner, Mr Khalid took to social media to say, "He must have been asked for a million selfies and he happily obliged every person that was at the wedding. He was happy to be there.

"...Love him as a player but even more as a caring person who puts others before himself. Deserves all the success he gets."

The former Leicester City midfielder has had his season truncated because of injuries so far. He missed the end of pre season and the opening day loss to Manchester United with a knee problem before his return.

He played two Premier League games and the loss to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup before his latest problem struck ahead of the dropped points against Chris Wilder's team.

Frank Lampard will be hoping to have him back fit and firing when the international break, which would be unfortunate for any other fans getting married.
