Gary Neville Perfectly Responds To Mason Greenwood 'Hippy Crack' Video

Gary Neville Perfectly Responds To Mason Greenwood 'Hippy Crack' Video

Gary Neville has questioned the coverage of Mason Greenwood, after British press covered a story about the young Manchester United forward inhaling nitrous oxide.

Last week Greenwood made his England debut, coming on as a substitute against Iceland, but was then sent home ahead of the Denmark game after he, and Phil Foden, broke Covid-19 protocols by allegedly inviting girls to their hotel room.

On Sunday the Manchester United striker was back in the headlines after the Sun reported on him doing 'hippy crack' just 'weeks' before his international debut.

Speaking on Sunday, former United defender turned Sky Sports pundit Neville said he felt 'uncomfortable' over what he thought was becoming 'victimising' of Greenwood.

The 18-year-old has already apologised for his actions, and said that he now understands the health risks involved, saying, "I have now been made aware of the health risks associated with this practice and accept that even trying it, as shown in these historical pictures, was poor judgement on my part. I strongly urge others not to follow my example.

"As an 18-year-old I am learning all the time, however, this week I have also learned that I will be judged to a higher standard because of my career as a footballer and I must respect that in future. I am determined to repay the faith shown in me by my manager and coaches."

Despite the Sun claiming the video came from just 'weeks' before the England debut last week, Greenwood's apology claimed they were 'historic' pictures of him doing nitrous oxide.

Fans also pointed out that the youngster isn't sporting his tattoos in the coverage and isn't as bulked up as he became during the lockdown, which helped him earn a place in the first team when football returned.

The coverage of Greenwood has also led many to make comparisons with how certain parts of the media behaved toward Raheem Sterling.

The Manchester City forward was also criticised for every little thing he did, including buying his mother a house and for having a gun tattooed on his leg.
