Stockport Fan Gets Tattoo Of Favourite Player's Name, Three Days Before He Signs For New Club

Stockport Fan Gets Tattoo Of Favourite Player's Name, Three Days Before He Signs For New Club

It was his first ever tattoo.

A Stockport fan that got a tattoo of his favourite player, just days before he signed for another club, says he has "no regrets."

Callum, 23, was on holiday in Zante with his mates when he decided to pay tribute to County legend Sam Minihan.

After getting the tattoo, he wrote on Facebook: "Monday I got a tattoo in Zante of my hero SUPER SAMMY MINIHAN from Stockport County. Thursday he signs for another club - hahaha."

That's right. Just three days after spending €70 on the tattoo, it was announced that Minihan, who helped The Hatters win two promotions during a six year spell at Edgeley Park, was to leave recently-promoted County.

The 28-year-old defender has joined National League side FC Halifax Town.

Despite the news, Callum is upbeat about getting Minhan's name on his leg.

"I was dying to get my first ever tattoo,"he told the Manchester Evening News. "I wanted to get something that I would remember and something fun.

"I had been thinking about what to do all day. I walked into the tattoo shop and that's when I had the idea. I wanted it to be something that I found quite funny. Sam Minihan is a legend. He has been at County for six years and he is my favourite player."

In fact, after getting the inking, Callum has managed to get in touch with Minihan.

"He was a real fans' favourite," he said. "I do not have any regrets. I have even had a conversation with him on Facebook. I posted a picture of my tattoo and tagged him into it - and got a reply off him.

"He said it was unreal and said to me 'what a bloke'.

"My mum was just a bit shocked and said 'what have you done?' But all my mates think it's quality. I have always been a Hatters fan and Super Sammy will always be a legend."

Callum added: "The transfer was rumoured a few weeks ago but we heard nothing. You don't always believe rumours but it was a bit of a shock to see him go.

"But the tattoo will defo be staying. Sam Minihan has been here since the club started to rebuild - he adores County."
