Graeme Souness branded a 'hypocrite' over Steven Gerrard sacking, argument with Simon Jordan descends into chaos

Graeme Souness branded a 'hypocrite' over Steven Gerrard sacking, argument with Simon Jordan descends into chaos

Graeme Souness and Simon Jordan went back-and-forth.

Graeme Souness and Simon Jordan got into a heated argument over Steven Gerrard - it descended into chaos.

Gerrard continues to be the topic of discussion following his sacking as Aston Villa manager last week.

Villa suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat to Fulham, with the club wasting no time in reliving his duties.

Gerrard's old team went onto beat Brentford 4-0 in their next Premier League outing, with the 42-year-old sensationally backed to become the next England manager.

And he was the subject of a fierce debate between Souness and Jordan, who went back-and-forth over the ex-Villa boss.

Jordan claimed Souness said Gerrard was under pressure from the owners due to the spending last summer.

The Liverpool legend denied the 'net spend' claim and believes Gerrard wasn't good enough for Villa before referencing Claudio Ranieri.

"I don't think so [he goes back into a big job], he'll have to drop down a league," said Souness. "I think Championship clubs would still want him.

"Why not? [Manage in the Championship], you go down there, do a good job, get them up, do well and then get a bigger one. I don't see any big clubs in the Premier League being interested, it's an almighty blow what's happened to him.

"This is the first time he's had negativity in his football career, it happened to me when I was 19, I thought I was the bee's knees at Tottenham, they sold me to Middlesbrough and it made me more determined.

"Steven Gerrard has showed a steely determination throughout his career and he'll show it again this time. Whether he comes back or not, I'd imagine financially it's not a necessity but his pride will be sorely dented."

Jordan fired back, calling Souness a 'hypocrite' for his thoughts on Roberto De Zerbi.

Souness had questioned Brighton's appointment of the Italian manager due to his managerial resume.

The video of their argument ends with Souness denying he's Gerrard's 'mate'.
