Lionel Messi has won 15 Man of the Match awards this season meaning the Barcelona forward is clear of anyone else in Europe's top five league's when it comes to being best player on the pitch in each game.

There's little else to say about how good Lionel Messi is. Every measure of how good a player is Messi seems to stack up against it and if he's not top then you can guarantee he's in the top five.

This season has been no different for Messi and he's on course to win his sixth European Golden Shoe award, for the top scorer in the continent, with no one else winning more than four.

The Argentina forward didn't have one of his best games in his last performance, as Manchester United kept him quiet for most of the Champions League quarter final first leg, but he still managed to set up Luis Suarez for what would end up being Luke Shaw's own goal winner.

Despite not being at his best Messi is still head and shoulders above everyone else when it comes to Man of the Match awards this season.

According to Give Me Sport, via WhoScored.com stats, the five time Ballon d'Or winner has 15 of the awards this season based on the stats site's ratings:

Messi has scored 33 goals in the league, ahead of Barca's game with Huesca on Saturday, and that means he's 13 goals ahead of second place Luis Suarez.

There's a good chance that Barca could win another Champions League this season, should they get past United in mid week, and that could mean another Ballon d'Or for Messi.

How many awards will Messi end up with when he retires?
