Lionel Messi joined Sergio Aguero's Twitch live stream ahead of Argentina's upcoming quarter-final clash against the Netherlands, and things got seriously wholesome between the pair.

For the first time since 2006, seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi has been without good friend and former international teammate Aguero by his side at a major tournament.

The 34-year-old former Manchester City and Barcelona forward announced his retirement last year after being diagnosed with heart arrhythmia.

Months later and Aguero headed to Qatar to support the Argentina national team, although he didn't get to visit the likes of Messi and Di Maria when he first arrived – much to his annoyance.

Since touching down in the Middle East, Argentina have beaten the likes of Poland and Mexico in the group stages and last weekend, they secured their place in the quarter-finals after a 2-1 win against Australia.

Ahead of Friday night's game against Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side, Lionel Messi and co. got together to speak to former teammate Aguero on streaming service Twitch.

They former roommates had a lengthy chat on stream. In fact, the subject of them sharing a room cropped up in conversation when Aguero asked where Messi was.

“Where you guys are?” the former Man City forward asked. Messi responded: “In our room" before Aguero, who was visibly emotional during the conversation, replied: “In our...?"

You can see that moment below.

Twitter account @AlbicelesteTalk translated the conversation, which also included the likes of Rodrigo De Paul, Papu Gomez and Leandro Paredes.

They compared Gomez to David Beckham after shaving his hair. Messi said: “Papu aimed very high, he wanted to compare himself with Beckham."

Aguero then replied: “Papu, why don’t you get inspired by Walter Samuel’s look? In the chat, they say that Papu has Sampaoli's hairstyle.”

Messi: “Papu aimed very high, he wanted to compare himself with Beckham.”

As you can see in the footage below, plenty of fun was had throughout. But at the end of their call, Messi wanted to let his friend know that they were still thinking of him out in Qatar.

“Thank you for calling us, We love you," the PSG forward said. "You are not here with us, but we’re remembering you everyday, you and Gio (Lo Celso). I want to greet all the people who watched us, bye.”

Aguero responded: "Good luck on Friday boys, whatever happens, you are phenomenons, love you.”

The kid wants to teach them how to change the camera and they are all laughing 😭
