David Ornstein has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future.

Salah was linked with a transfer to the Saudi Pro League last summer, with Al Ittihad having even made a verbal offer of £150million for the player.

However, it has long been thought the burgeoning league will make another attempt to sign the Egyptian at the end of the current campaign.

With Salah set to enter the final year of his Liverpool deal this summer, former Egypt striker Mido claimed earlier this week that the player has already signed an agreement with a Saudi Pro League club.

Mido posted on X, formally Twitter: “Mohamed Salah will be in the Saudi League next season. Contracts have been signed.”

Yet, The Athletic’s transfer guru, David Ornstein has since alleged that while Salah will likely be pursued by Saudi Pro League sides, he has not yet agreed to any deal to leave Liverpool.

Ornstein said: “Full respect to Mido and others reporting their information — but I’m told it is not true that contracts have been signed. If I’m wrong, I’ll hold my hands up.

“There’s every chance he will be pursued by teams from the Saudi Pro League again, especially given he is approaching the last 12 months of his existing deal, but that doesn’t mean he wants to leave Liverpool or Europe.”

Saudi Pro League clubs have spent over £700million on new signings in the past year, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Neymar Jr having all joined the burgeoning league.

The division’s vice-chair, Saad Al Lazeez, insisted the financial backing will not slow down in the summer window.

“This is a long-term investment. We are not in it for a season,” he said at the Financial Times’ Business of Football Summit.

“We are pleased with what has been achieved so far. In fact, I think we are a bit ahead of schedule.”
