Karim Benzema scored a comedy own-goal minutes after scoring for Al Ittihad.

On Friday evening, Al Ittihad were in Saudi Professional League action as they took on Al Taawoun.

In the 22nd minute, Benzema gave his side the lead after scoring a bullet header.

However, just four minutes after his goal, Benzema scored in the wrong net.

As a corner was swung into the Al Ittihad penalty area, the Frenchman diverted the ball into his own net past goalkeeper Marcelo Grohe.

Benzema joined Al Ittihad from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid this summer in what was a shock move.

The current Ballon d’Or holder left Madrid after a glittering spell that resulted in five Champion League titles, four La Ligas, three Copas del Rey, four UEFA Super Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups.

In total, Benzema played 648 times for Madrid across all competitions, scoring 354 goals and will go down as one of Los Blancos’ best-ever strikers.

Benzema was one of many big-name footballers who decided to ditch European football for the Saudi Professional League this summer.

Al Ittihad signed the likes of Jota, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho alongside Benzema.

Rivals Al Nassr brought in players such as Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic and Aymeric Laporte. Whilst Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Steven Gerrard, signed the likes of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Demarai Gray.

Other players such as Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Neymar, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Ruben Neves also moved to Saudi Arabia from Europe.
