BREAKING: Sadio Mane ‘out of the World Cup’ after injury suffered during Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen

BREAKING: Sadio Mane ‘out of the World Cup’ after injury suffered during Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen

This is a huge blow for Senegal.

Sadio Mane is reportedly out of the World Cup after suffering a knee injury during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen on Tuesday.

The Senegal international went down after just 15 minutes and was replaced by Leroy Sane.

With just 13 days to go until Senegal’s World cup opener against the Netherlands, fears are growing that Mane could miss the tournament.

After the match, Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann said: “I can’t say anything for sure, he took a blow to the head of his shin.

“That’s an unpleasant spot, it radiates a bit into the muscles. I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there, because it is splintering easily. But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.”

Assistant coach Dino Toppmoller added: “Sadio Mané was hit on the leg, which caused him a little nerve pain.

“Nothing too serious and his participation in the World Cup should not be in jeopardy.”

Now according to French media outlet L’Equipe, Mane is out of the World Cup.

This is bound to be a huge blow for Senegal as Mane is their star man, the man that fired them to Africa Cup of Nations glory in January. Mane also scored the winning penalty which sent Senegal into the World Cup.

Apart from the Netherlands, Senegal will be up against Ecuador and host nations Qatar.
