Notts County's view on Wrexham revealed following National League rivals' promotion

Notts County's view on Wrexham revealed following National League rivals' promotion

Wrexham have been praised by promotion rivals Notts County following their National League title win.

Wrexham have been praised by National League promotion rivals Notts County following the Welsh side's clinching of the league title and promotion back to the Football League.

The Red Dragons, co-owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, secured their return to league football after a 15-year hiatus with a 3-1 win at home to Boreham Wood last weekend, beating County to automatic promotion with just two sides able to secure promotion from the fifth tier.

Luke Williams' side have had a marvellous campaign and could end the season on 109 points with no guarantee of promotion with the play-offs looming for the Nottinghamshire outfit, highlighting the quality of the two sides.

The Wrexham co-owners have both reserved high praise for their club's closest promotion rivals with Reynolds saying to BT Sport after his side's 3-2 victory against Notts earlier this month: "What makes it so special is how powerful, how special, how unique Notts County is. They're the real story here. What they've done this season: losing their CEO Jason Turner, who as I've grown to know and learn was utterly beloved not just in Notts but here as well.

"I have such enormous respect for everything they’ve built and everything that they’ve done and it's just insane for me that only one goes up automatically.

"If it were different - and I think it should be - both of these clubs would be celebrating together right now. Because what they've done is not only created drama greater than anything you’d see in a damn movie, but just something I think people will be talking about for ages.

"The fact this much attention has come upon the National League in this way I think is incredibly special and immensely worthy of not only Wrexham but Notts County as well. What they’ve done is so special, so unique."

Now, the warm words have been returned with Notts County captain Kyle Cameron praising Wrexham, saying to the Mirror: "If you look at seasons in the past, 106 points would win every single season this league has seen, apart from this one. It's a little bit tough, we would have loved to win the league, but you have got to give some credit to Wrexham about what they have done this season.

"It has been incredible, so big congratulations to them. We're just hoping, fingers crossed, that we can get it over the line in the play-offs.""It's one people are going to talk about, two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum, but on the same spectrum of winning games for the majority of the season.

"They have done amazing, they are sitting on 110 points at the moment and they could get 113 on Saturday. It has been neck-and-neck and back-and-forth all season and it's been a really good one to be involved in because it's going to go down in the history books for many years."
