Roy Keane Was Once Asked A Question So Stupid, He Couldn't Help But Break Character And Laugh

Keane has always been box office.

Roy Keane was once left speechless after being asked a question about a waterlogged pitch on ITV Sport.

The former Manchester United captain has always been no-nonsense on the pitch and in the studio.

Back in 2012 however, even he had no response to Adrian Chiles filling time after the postponement of Poland vs England.

Heavy rain in Warsaw saw the World Cup qualifier pushed back a day and coverage was thrown back to Chiles and the trio of Keane, Lee Dixon and future England manager Gareth Southgate.

"It raises interesting meteorological questions I suppose, the spokesperson for the Polish FA said, 'We were expecting heavy rain but not a downpour.' That's something we can debate long into the night," Chiles begun.

"When does a heavy rain become an actual downpour?"

Keane's immediately looked at Chiles and rolled his eyes before putting his hand to his face.

Southgate and Dixon were both in tears of laughter and the former said: "Roy's thinking I hope we aren't debating this until the end of the night!"

Fans have reacted to the exchange and they think it could be one of Keane's most underrated moments on TV.

One commented: "Seeing Roy Keane's beyond astounded expression, priceless..."

Another said: "Honestly the sincerity in Adrian’s delivery is hilarious, Keane having none of it."

A third put: "Comedy gold from Roy. The expression on his face says it all."

While someone added: "This is still one of my favourite TV moments."

Ten years on, Keane is still one of the most popular pundits on TV and his words carry great weight.

This season has seen him take aim at former club United and a number of key players.

One in particular is captain Harry Maguire, who is often a lightning-rod for criticism.

The 29-year-old was even booed by England fans inside Wembley during Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Ivory Coast.

Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish and Declan Rice came out in defence of Maguire as did Southgate.

Former Three Lions international Danny Mills sensationally slammed Keane in the aftermath and said his words will have had an influence on Maguire's reception around the country.

Keane discussed Maguire being booed and he believes Southgate made it a bigger issue than it actually is, telling him it was 'no big deal' post-match.
