Roy Keane and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink both disagreed with Gary Neville's view that a second-place finish would still be a good season for Arsenal.

The Gunners have led the way at the top of the Premier League for the vast majority of the season after an excellent campaign under Mikel Arteta.

The football produced has been scintillating and the Gunners 'exciting young team have answered so many key tests in regards to their title credentials.

However, they've slipped up in their last two fixtures - throwing away consecutive two goal leads to draw 2-2 away at both Liverpool and West Ham.

It means that Arsenal are now just four points clear of in-form Manchester City, who host them at the Etihad Stadium on 26 April and also have a game in hand.

Neville has regularly shot down talk of Arsenal winning a first title since 2004 but he believes it wouldn't be the end of the world if they ended up coming second.

Would Arsenal be disappointed with a 2nd place finish? 🤔

"Arsenal finishing second would still be an unbelievable season,” was the opinion expressed by Neville on Sky Sports.

Hasselbaink was having none of it and stressed that it would be a "disaster" if Arsenal were to bottle the title having been in the driving seat for so long.

"It's a disaster. It doesn't matter if the beginning of the season, 'we're not going to be number one' - you've been number one the whole season."

Neville tried to argue his point and how dropping out of the top four last season was a more significant blow but Keane weighed in and pointed out how Arsenal put all their focus on the Premier League and played a weakened team in other cup competitions.

“If you look at the position they were in, they had it! So they've got previous," Keane summarised the debate, referencing last season's disappointment.

The debate was absolute box office and saw Neville outnumbered on Sky Sports programming once again.

Next up for Arsenal is a visit of bottom club Southampton on Friday night at the Emirates before that huge crunch clash with City a few days later.
