Roma Boss Jose Mourinho In Tears As They Reach Europa Conference League Final

The Serie A side defeated Leicester City to book their place in the first ever Europa Conference League final, against Feyenoord.

Jose Mourinho was left in tears, as he led his Roma team to the Europa Conference League final, with victory over Leicester City.

There isn't much, if anything, that Mourinho hasn't won in his 22 years as a manager so far but on Thursday night he had a very unique opportunity.

Having drawn 1-1 in the first leg of the Conference League semi final with Leicester, Mourinho knew that a win at home would secure a place in the first ever final of the competition.

The Conference League is new this season, and the third tier of UEFA's competitions, and thanks to Tammy Abraham's first half goal on Thursday, Mourinho could be the first winner.

For someone who has won so much, fans might have been forgiven for thinking the 'Special One' had no interest in the competition but at full time against Leicester he was visibly emotional and began crying.

The 59-year-old first won a European competition in 2003, when he led his Porto team to victory in the UEFA Cup, defeating Celtic in the final.

In typical Mourinho style, the match was controversial, with fans and pundits complaining about the dark and dirty tactics of the Portuguese side, especially the time wasting and diving in their extra time win.

A year later he pulled off the unthinkable when he won the Champions League with the same team, defeating Manchester United on the way to the final, where he famously ran down the touchline to celebrate an injury time winner.

Mourinho's team defeated Monaco in the final, after the French team had beaten Chelsea in the semis, with the winning manager joining the Blues soon after.

He may have added more European silverware in his first season at Stamford Bridge, if it wasn't for the infamous ghost goal in the game against Liverpool, before the Reds went on to beat AC Milan in the final.

Mourinho then had to wait until his treble winning season with Inter Milan to pick up his next continental trophy, again providing a moment of pure entertainment when he celebrated on the pitch after beating Barcelona in the semis.

Having wrapped up Serie A and the Coppa Italia, Inter went on to defeat Bayern Munich in the final, in a historic season for the Nerazzurri.

His most recent European trophy came at Manchester United, where he helped them win the Europa League, beating Ajax in the final in 2017.

Feyenoord best beware, as Mourinho has only ever lost three cup finals and none of them have been in European competitions.
