Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi has provided more details on his altercation with Tottenham Hotspur interim boss Cristian Stellini.

The two sides met at the Amex Stadium this afternoon with the visitors going on to secure all three points thanks to late winner from England's all-time leading goalscorer, Harry Kane.

Similar to the last game for Spurs, this fixture saw the referee brandish to red cards on the afternoon as tempers flared throughout the fixture. However, on this occasion, it was the two managers who were given their marching orders in one of the more bizarre situations of recent times.

The two were fixed in a heated exchange prior to the game beginning which saw De Zerbi wagging his finger at Stellini, with the situation then escalating during the game, leading to the two red cards being handed out by referee Stuart Atwell.

Speaking in his press conference after the 2-1 loss, De Zerbi provided more details on the situation. Where he said: “I’m used to always respecting everyone inside of the pitch and outside of the pitch and I don’t like when people don’t respect me. There are normal situations in football. Personal things no?

“I always respect everyone, especially the coaches. I can answer for me, not for him.”

De Zerbi was then asked if Stellini had disrespected him with what was said, where he added: “Yes. It was a personal situation and I told him my idea. Not bad words, just my idea. I told him what is my opinion and I don’t want to explain anything more.

“I don’t like when the other bench puts pressure on the referee. We have to help the referee in this stadium and this atmosphere.”
