Mo Salah Responds To Talk Of Ballon d'Or Showdown With Ronaldo

Will it be the Liverpool forward or the Real Madrid forward who steals the show at the Champions League final?

Will it be Cristiano Ronaldo winning yet another or Mo Salah winning his first? The question could be about the Champions League or about the Ballon d'Or but Salah doesn't think the final is all about him vs Ronaldo.

It's weird that in a week where Real Madrid and Liverpool made it through to the Champions League final and their sides score four goals between them neither Ronaldo or Salah were actually on the scoresheet.

The Portuguese superstar is usually the one getting his side out of a jam, especially in the Champions League, and before Tuesday had scored in every game in the competition this season.

Salah has also formed somewhat of a reputation for making sure he scores in Europe. He may have scored 41 goals across all competitions so far but 10 of those have come in the Champions League, helping lead the Reds to their first final in the tournament since 2007.

Some are suggesting that the prize for the best player in the world will come down to which of Salah and Ronaldo's teams wins the Champions League. But Salah think the final is more complicated than that, saying:

"It is not going to be a final between Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo, I am playing for a great club, and we have great players.

"So qualifying to the final came with great team work, that I cannot do it alone.

"I know all of the Arab people wish the best for me in the Ballon d'Or, and they are happy every time I win, but now at the moment I am only thinking about the final and to bring the trophy to Anfield."

Whilst most are starting to assume that the Ballon d'Or award and FIFA's The Best Award will go to one of the two forwards in the final Lionel Messi may still have something to say on the destination of the trophies.

The Barcelona forward is locked at five Ballon d'Ors each with Ronaldo and is on the verge of helping Barca go the whole La Liga season undefeated and could yet win Europe's Golden Boot.

On top of that should Messi help deliver the World Cup to Argentina then he would surely jump ahead of the pair in the Champions League final for football's biggest singular award.

It remains to be seen which of the three will get their hands on the Ballon d'Or.

Who would you give the award to?
