Edinson Cavani And Neymar's Relationship Got Off To A Bad Start

The PSG strikers are arguing over penalties now but it seems the former Barcelona forward got off to a frosty start with his new colleague.

Never before did I think that there would be so much made of who takes penalties for a team but the turf war between Edinson Cavani and Neymar at PSG has turned spot kicks into a rivalry. However their relationship wasn't good before that.

When Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG in the summer for £198 million one of the reasons given was that he was fed up of living in the shadow of Lionel Messi. He wanted to be the big dog.

But it's not yet completely Neymar's yard in the capital of France. That's mainly because the world's most expensive footballer ever has been arguing with his teammate about who should be on pens.

Cavani believes he should be taking them, as he was doing last season, whereas his new colleague wants to be top scorer, lead his team to Champions League glory and win the Ballon d'Or out of his former teammates shadow.

The situation has become so ridiculous that the chairman reportedly offered the Uruguayan €1 million to give up taking spot kicks. But according to Spanish newspaper El Pais things were never going to go well in the pairs relationship.

The newspaper reports that after the likes of Julian Draxler, Blaise Matuidi, Javier Pastore and Serge Aurier were told they were for sale after the signing that players weren't too happy and Cavani's first words to Neymar only furthered that with the former Napoli man reportedly saying:

"And who is this? Do you think you're Messi?!

There was clearly a feeling in the dressing room of hostility towards the forward signing for such big money meaning some of the most experienced players in the squad were now up for sale.

Thiago Silva, Hatem ben Arfa, Lucas Moura completed the list of players who were apparently made available but only Matuidi and Aurier were actually sold in the end.

At the weekend it was revealed that Neymar is earning around €700k-a-week, news that will hardly quell any resentment there is in the dressing room towards the new addition to the squad.

You can't help but think this can only end in Cavani leaving PSG!
