Rio Ferdinand Reveals He Used To 'Swear At And Argue' With Manchester United Teammate In Every Single Training Session

Rio Ferdinand says he and a Manchester United teammates had a number of heated arguments.

Rio Ferdinand has revealed he and Wayne Rooney were regularly at each other's throats during training and games while they were teammates.

Ferdinand and Rooney were long-time colleagues for Manchester United and England, winning a plethora of titles and trophies.

They remain on good terms today and Ferdinand is hoping to get him on his podcast in the near future.

But the former defender admits they argued and swore at one another in every single training session - irrespective of whether they were against each other or on the same side.

"Angry Wayne Rooney is playing in my all-time Premier League XI," Ferdinand said on Vibe with Five.

"I used to have him on a bit of string.

"Oh my god, we used to argue every training session. Me and him used to swear at each other and argue like you’d never know - in games and training.

"Just that anger, whether same team or opposite team it didn’t matter, I’d be shouting at him about something, he’d be shouting at me about something, just growling.”

Rooney was known for playing on the edge and sometimes that resulted in him losing his temper and being shown a red card.

But there are instances, like his worldie volley against Newcastle, where his anger worked positively as he smashed one into the top bins.

Ferdinand was asked by co-host Stephen Howson how he would go about marking Rooney.

"The Rooney that played as a No.9, I think he was almost unplayable at times," he responded.

"As a nine he was a joke, even in the Euros when he first dropped onto the scenes. He was doing mad stuff, like, 'Wow, who is this?'.

"He was just like a machine. That's the only thing I would think of, if a player was a bit of a needle I'd try and get into it and wind him up.

"That's what I would have done, try to wind him up maybe. And your hoping he maybe leaves it late on someone and gets a red card."
