Rio Ferdinand has sensationally blamed Arsenal for Manchester City potentially claiming a famous treble this season.

Man City are just one trophy away from winning an incredible treble, having bagged the Premier League and FA Cup.

The Blues take on Inter Milan in Saturday's Champions League final as they aim to win their first major European trophy.

If Pep Guardiola's side win the Champions League, then they'll emulate Manchester United's achievement in 1999.

And ahead of potentially matching their cross-town rivals, Ferdinand has blamed the Gunners for failing to win the league title this season.

On his podcast, the former Man United defender accused Mikel Arteta's team of 'folding like a pack of cards' in a damning assessment.

"It was your job, you were ahead 93 per cent of the time. You was in a prime position to do that, and you folded like a pack of cards."

Man United, however, could have stopped Man City from winning a treble as they suffered a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup final.

But Ferdinand reckons Arsenal are responsible for allowing Man City to potentially scoop three trophies this season.

Going into the big showdown at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, Guardiola expects neutrals to support Inter.

He said: "I don't know if [Manchester] United want us to yes, win the Champions League!

"Listen, when you are at this stage, not all the people around the world wants you to win. I am sure there are a lot of people in Italy who want Inter and the others don't. That's football with rivalry.

"People who like us will for sure but the other one... it doesn't matter if they want Inter Milan."

Guardiola added: "With our club, I've learnt that overexcitement doesn't suit us. So many clubs have destroyed projects and ideas because they weren't able to win this competition, and so many have become big clubs because they were able to win it.

"Even if I don't share this opinion, I understand that everything we have done through all these years, which has been a lot and very good, will make sense to others if we win this competition.

"If we don't win it, then things will seem to make less sense. It's a bit unfair, but we must accept it. That's how it is."
