Tuesday night saw the Champions League return after a couple of weeks off for the international break. The third matchday took place with plenty of incident and Real Madrid scoring five goals. Here's what you missed.

In Group E all four sides picked up draws to change absolutely nothing. Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham Hotspurs played out a 0-0 draw in Germany whilst Monaco scored a late equaliser in Moscow to get a draw against CSKA.

Spurs were the better side in the first half in Germany but were left grateful to Hugo Lloris for somehow keeping out Bayer in the second half to stay second in the group. Monaco retained top spot after Bernardo Silva scored a last minute equaliser after Lacina Traore, on loan from the French side, opened the scoring for CSKA in the first half

Group F was the place for goals as the four teams scored nine goals between them in comparison to the eight scored in the other three groups combined.

Real Madrid were 5-1 winners against Legia Warsaw at the Bernabeu with Cristiano Ronaldo failing to get on the scoresheet. Los Blancos were 3-1 up after 45 minutes before Vasquez and Morata added the shine in the second half.

In Lisbon Borussia Dortmund took an early lead against Sporting and never gave it up. Julian Weigl added to Aubameyang's early strike just before half time. In the second half Bruno César gave Sporting a chance but Dortmund stay top of the group.

Perhaps the story of the night was in Group G where Leicester City continued their fantastic run with their third win in three. The Foxes are the only team in the bottom half of the draw with a 100% record.

Claudio Ranieri's side took the lead against Copenhagen through Riyad Mahrez after a header down from Islam Slimani. The Algerian striker put the ball in the back of the net in the second half only to see his goal ruled out.

In stoppage time the hosts looked like they would equalise. However the Danish champions were denied by a fantastic save by Kasper Schmeichel, playing in the place of his birth.

In the other game in that group Club Brugge hoped to inflict more damage on former winners Porto. The Portuguese side only had one point from their opening two games and needed a win.

However it was the Belgians who took an early lead at home through Jelle Vossen. They really should have added to their lead but when they didn't it would come back and haunt them. Miguel Layún equalised after 68 minutes before a penalty from Andre Silva gave Porto all three points.

In Group H it was legend Gianluigi Buffon who stole the headlines. The 38 year old rolled back the years by saving his first penalty in 13 years in the Champions League. The Juve number one later made another fantastic save to keep his side at 0-0 against Lyon in France.

And Buffon's heroics were rewarded at the other end where Juan Cuadrado scored an absolutely brilliant goal in the 75th minute to give the Old Lady a 1-0 win and take them top of the group.

The last match of the night saw Dinamo Zagreb play host to Sevilla. With Lyon losing the Croatian side knew a win would do the world of good for their chances of finishing third and getting into the Europa League.

Unfortunately they came up against an in form Samir Nasri. The on loan Manchester City midfielder scored his third goal in seven games since joining Sevilla to give the Europa League champions a 1-0 win.

It leaves the Spaniards level on points with Juventus.

At the half way stage for these 16 teams in the group stages things are pretty tight everywhere apart from Leicester who are yet to even concede a goal!
