Real Madrid hit back at Barcelona after ‘club of the regime’ comments from Joan Laporta

Tension between the two famous Spanish clubs is rising

Real Madrid have sensational hit back at Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s ‘club of the regime’ comments by posting an extraordinary video on their social media.

Back in March, it was reported that Madrid are looking to join the complaint against Barcelona over the ongoing ‘Negreira Case’.

Barcelona are involved in a refereeing scandal linked with former official Enriquez Negreira, who has denied ever favouring the Catalan club in regard to refereeing decisions.

On Monday, Laporta labelled Madrid a club of the regime, referencing the club under the dictatorship of Franciso Franco, who reigned between 1933 and 1975.

He said: “They (Real) claim to feel aggravated in sporting terms by this. This comes from a club, as we all know, that has been favoured from refereeing back in history and still nowadays. A club that was regarded as ‘the club of the regime’ back in the day.

“Why was that? Because of how close they were to the political, economical and sportive power… it might have to be remembered that during seven decades, the majority of presidents and officials from the refereeing committee were former Real Madrid partners, former Real Madrid footballers or former Real Madrid executives. During 70 years, the people in charge to make decisions in that regard were from Real Madrid.”

Later in the evening, Madrid hit back with a sensational four-minute video outlining Barcelona’s links with the Franco regime.

The video explained that Barcelona gave Franco three medals and made him an honourary club member in 1965.

It also highlighted the fact that Barcelona’s famous Camp Nou stadium was opened by Jose Solis Ruiz, who was Franco’s general minister.

In addition, the video also stated that Barcelona won eight La Liga titles and nine Copas del Generalisimo during Franco’s reign, whilst it took Madrid 15 years to win one league title.

On the ‘Negreira Case’, Laporta has again reiterated that Barcelona have done nothing wrong. Their off the pitch issues might be growing but Xavi's men are still delivering on the pitch as they are currently top of the La Liga table, leading Madrid by a huge 11 points.
