Raphael Varane's inspirational speech during half-time of the World Cup final shows Manchester United fans exactly what he will be bringing to the team.

Varane, who was unveiled to the Old Trafford faithful before their first game of the Premier League season, was finally able to seal his transfer to Manchester United after weeks of talks and speculation.

Whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has undoubtedly brought in Varane to make a strong defensive partnership alongside Harry Maguire, Varane showed at the World Cup that he will be a great asset in the dressing room too.

His speech at half time during the World Cup final whilst France were leading 2-1 against Croatia shows the leadership skills he possesses : "Don't get too worked up about positioning. Guys, it's in your head. Be positive, believe in it.

"We're gunna win guys! We're gunna win this match! No need to get too worked up about it, come on!"

Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, pundits and fans have frequently accused United for not having enough leaders in the dressing room and Varane may well help to solve this problem.

Since Varane's arrival, he has already given insight into how he conducts himself around the team: "I think I'm very calm and, with my experience, I know when to shout when it's necessary for the team.

"But, in general, I prefer to speak with my team-mates and speak about tactics, and to be comfortable with my team-mates before a game and make sure we are ready to fight and be in a positive mood."

The French centre-back was unable to play in United's friendly against Burnley this week as he had only trained a few times with the squad.

When Solskjaer was asked about Varane's chances of making a debut against Southampton this weekend, he said: "He's been keeping fit, he's a naturally fit lad and he's had a good week. He's coming through the last session and if that goes well he'll probably travel."
