Barcelona are on the verge of making former Middlesbrough flop Martin Braithwaite their latest signing after his agent arrived in the Spanish city to negotiate a deal.

Quique Setién's side are currently in the market for an emergency striker after Ousmane Dembele was ruled out for six months with a hamstring tear.

In recent days, the club have been given permission by La Liga to make a signing, and it appears that man is Braithwaite, who has scored just six goals in 24 appearances for struggling Leganes this season.

Braithwaite's agent Ali Dursun has already started negotiations with the club, according to RAC-1 journalist Gerard Romeroa, despite Leganes claiming to know nothing about the situation.

Barcelona will have 15 days to make the capture; who must either be a free agent or someone who is playing in La Liga currently.

It is believed that the Catalan giants will have to pay his £18 million release clause.

Braithwaite scored 12 goals in 50 appearances last season for Leganes, including goals against Barcelona and Real Madrid, but his record in England, where Tony Pulis splashed a reported £9 million on the player in 2017, was far from spectacular.

He netted just nine times in a two year spell at The Riverside, and was eventually loaned to French side Bordeaux in 2018.

But clearly Barcelona see something special in the 28-year-old striker, as they seek a temporary replacement for the injured Dembele.

Thoughts on Barcelona making their move for Martin Braithwaite? Would he be a success at the Camp Nou?
