It was the big talking point of last night's final.

Yes, France midfielder Dimitri Payet has been praised throughout the tournament for a number of spectacular performances in the famous blue but his heavy challenge on Cristiano Ronaldo didn't go down well with many.

Ronaldo tried to play on, but he was stretchered off in tears during the first half.

Dimirti Payet has now spoken about the incident and has reiterated that he did not intend to injure the Portugal captain in the European Championship final, stating that 'it was not intentional'

After the final whistle, Payet said the following about THAT tackle:

"No, it was a challenge, that's all, period, I regained the possession and if I hurt him it was not intentional.

It's not in my nature to be a bad guy on the pitch. There is no question about it."

Looking away from the challenge on Ronaldo, the West Ham playmaker has been a sensation in this years tournament.

According to UEFA stats, Dimitri Payet was the best player at Euro 2016.
