20 years ago today Michael Owen scored one of the best goals at any World Cup. Kylian Mbappe wasn't even born yet and here he is today ripping Argentina apart and taking France to a World Cup quarter final.

Over two weeks ago Spain and Portugal played out a 3-3 draw in the group stages and we all expected that we'd already seen the game of the tournament however France and Argentina might have just bettered it in the opening game of the second round.

Both sides went into the game without playing their best in the group games but Argentina had been the poorer of the two sides.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring for France from the penalty spot but they couldn't make their dominance count as Angel di Maria equalised with five minutes of the first half to go.

Seven minutes into the second half Gabriel Mercado made it 2-1 to everyone's surprise but then France turned up a gear with Benjamin Pavard scoring a beauty and Kylian Mbappe grabbing two in four minutes. Sergio Aguero nodded a consolation in for Argentina in injury time but it was of little consequence in the end.

Mbappe's pace and poise and constant threat were just too much for Argentina to deal with and he looked every bit the superstar that everyone expects him to be.

Fans were absolutely loving the game and in awe of Mbappe's performance:

20 years ago France won the World Cup and Kylian Mbappe wasn't even born yet. Based on this performance he may be the man to bring the trophy back to the country.
