Arsenal centre-back Per Mertesacker has offered Gooners a rousing pep talk ahead of a gruelling festive period but it hasn't exactly had the desired affect.

The German World Cup winner is still out injured but, as club captain, has been trying to inspire his team-mates, colleagues and fans to keep up their push for their first Premier League title since 2004.
But does the message in this Mertesacker tweet remind you of anyone?


It didn't jump straight out at us, but after a minute or two, it's definitely reminiscent of Steven Gerrard's on-pitch speech to his Liverpool team-mates back in 2014, after a famous 3-2 win over Manchester City.

After vowing to not "let this slip" Gerrard did exactly that against Chelsea and, well, you all know the rest.
And now Arsenal supporters reckon Mertesacker has invited the exact same stick with his latest comments:



Well, if Mertesacker comes back from injury and proceeds to slip on his backside, we have a feeling this will come back to haunt him.
