Borussia Dortmund Lose Star For First Three Months Of The Season

A big blow to the Bundesliga team.

There's never a good time for one of your best players to get injured and miss a few months. However with Borussia Dortmund just coming back to pre-season training they wouldn't have wanted to get an injury just now.

There's a reason why clubs try to get their transfer business done quickly when the window opens. It's because they want as long as possible to work new players into the system.

Pre-season is the only time a manager and his coaches really get the chance to coach for an extended amount of time without midweek European, league and domestic cup games getting in the way.

So this week would be the worst time to find out that one of your best players has just picked up an injury to keep him out for four months, especially when you're a new manager trying to work things out!

That's exactly what's happened to Peter Bosz at Borussia Dortmund. The club's website confirmed today that Raphael Guerreiro has a broken foot and after undergoing surgery will miss the first three months of the season.

As the report says Guerreiro injured himself on international duty. He was at the Confederations Cup with Portugal in Russia. Unfortunately he was injured during his team's game against the hosts.

Portugal topped their group at the World Cup warm up tournament, finishing ahead of Mexico after they both won two games and drew with each other, but couldn't get past Chile in the semi-final, losing on penalties.

Thomas Tuchel left the club at the end of the season after winning the German Cup and has been replaced by Peter Bosz who just lost the Europa League final to Manchester United.

His 23 year-old left back, who he'll be without at the beginning of the season, only moved to Germany from Lorient last year but quickly established himself as one of the team's best players.

Fortunately for Guerreiro he gets to sit out the horrors of pre-season shuttle runs, this'll be the first time he wishes he was doing them.
