Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundits have named their team of the year so far and some big names are left out

Players from Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa feature.

The Soccer Saturday pundits have collectively named their team of the season so far and some big players have been left out.

The Premier League campaign is almost at the halfway point as Liverpool currently occupy top spot, with second-placed Arsenal in action on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp's side climbed above Mikel Arteta's team to the top of the league following their 2-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

And FOUR of Klopp's charges feature in the Soccer Saturday's team of the season so far.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are two of the four defenders while summer arrival Dominik Szoboszlai earns a spot in midfield. Mohamed Salah, who has 12 league goals to his name this campaign, also makes the team of the season so far.

Tottenham, who enjoyed a blistering start to the new term, boast three players in the shape of Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie, who both arrived in the summer.

Not to mention Son Heung-min, who has scored 11 league goals this season.

The Spurs keeper, who was snapped up from Empoli, beat Tim Sherwood's shout for Emiliano Martinez.

Arsenal have two players in Soccer Saturday's team of the season; William Saliba and Declan Rice, who has starred for the Gunners following his £105 million transfer from West Ham United.

And there's one player each from Aston Villa and Manchester City as Douglas Luiz and Erling Haaland complete the XI.

Paul Merson, Clinton Morrison, Tim Sherwood, Sue Smith and Matt Dawson also put a spotlight on other players that have impressed this season.

Merson hailed Cristian Romero and Morrison made a claim for Micky van de Ven.

Smith praised John McGinn's endeavour in midfield while Dawson spoke highly of West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen.

Newcastle United trio Kieran Tripper, Anthony Gordon and Joelinton as well as Bournemouth's red-hot Dominic Solanke and Ollie Watkins also got a mention.
