Neal Maupay shares new details on mocking James Maddison's darts celebration and why it's 'GOATED'

Maupay has commented.

Neal Maupay has opened up on mocking James Maddison's darts celebration during a Premier League clash between Tottenham and Brentford.

Maddison is a big darts fan, and was seen attending Alexandra Palace during the 2024 World Darts Championship.

He also developed a darts celebration, which sees him mimic the throw of a dart.

As a result, when he opened the scoring for Brentford against Maddison's Spurs in January, Maupay felt compelled to mock the celebration - by performing a darts celebration of his own.

Speaking exclusively to SPORTbible, Maupay has revealed exactly why he did it.

You can see the clip below.

Maupay said: "Believe it not, that wasn't planned.

"I scored, and I was running towards the corner flag, and I just thought, 'You know what - I'm gonna throw a dart'.

"Yeah it was [because of Maddison]. That's how he celebrates his goals, right?

"But apparently you're not allowed to throw a dart, because it's only him that can do it, the way he got offended. It was quite funny.

"The only thing is, it would have been even better if we'd won. But we lost in the end.

"At their place, in front of their fans, got all of their players raging. That's GOATed. All of those players, every time they scored, they ran right at me.

"Just by throwing a dart, I got 11 players on toast. It was so easy."

As Maupay alluded to, Brentford couldn't hold on for victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after his first half opener.

Destiny Udogie equalised for Spurs in the second half, before Brennan Johnson's strike just one minute later gave them the lead.

Richarlison then netted a third goal for Ange Postecoglou's side on 56 minutes, and although Ivan Toney then pulled one back for Brentford on 67 minutes, the Bees were unable to complete a comeback and lost 3-2.
