Jamie Carragher named the three positions he thinks Liverpool need to strengthen even if they win the Premier League this season.

Carragher, 47, made the admission when speaking on Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday.

The win saw Arne Slot’s side go 11 points clear of Arsenal, who lost 1-0 against West Ham on Saturday.

As he usually is, Mohamed Salah was the difference as he scored a goal and assisted Dominik Szoboszlai's strike.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate put in an admirable performances at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. At the same time, Szoboszlai, 24, hardly stopped and collapsed to the ground in exhaustion at full-time.

And despite seemingly being champions-elect, Carragher still thinks there is room for improvement in Slot’s side.

“Slot is going to know this squad a lot better going into next season,” said Carragher on Sky Sports.

“He only really uses 14 or 15 players, and there are probably four or five that he doesn't rate. I am not being critical, but he will know what this team needs.

“Even if this team is going to win the league, I think there are still three positions in this team that can be improved quite a bit. It is not about bringing four or five squad players in.

"I think a left-back could come in, a centre-forward and an attacking midfielder. I am talking about coming into the team. You would expect Liverpool to have money to spend, and that would be exciting.”

And despite the prospect of Liverpool securing their 20th Premier League title feeling inevitable at this point, Slot did not get carried away.

"The fans can sing whatever they want, but we know how hard we have to play for every single win," Slot said in his post-match press conference.

"So I don't believe that [the title is won]. It's so hard to judge the league table before every game has been played.

"If you play against City at the Etihad and win, it is always a big win, but three days ago we had a draw at Aston Villa and people told me we weren't in a good place. Then three days later we win and it changes again.

"We know how hard it was to beat Wolves last week and we have Newcastle next after a 3-3 draw at Newcastle, so every game is difficult.

"In any other league, this lead would be comfortable, but not this one. Even the [FA Cup] game at Plymouth showed us that."

Liverpool will return to action when they face Newcastle at Anfield on Wednesday 26 February.
