Jean-Philippe Mateta achieved feat no other Premier League player has in 27 years vs Man Utd

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored in Crystal Palace's big win over Manchester United.

Jean-Philippe Mateta registered a stunning stat that no other Premier League player has achieved in 27 years in Crystal Palace's huge win over Manchester United on Monday.

Mateta scored Palace's second goal in their rampant 4-0 win against Man Utd, who set an unwanted club record.

He smashed home before the break to double his side's advantage, bringing up his 11th league strike of the season in the process.

The Frenchman has been prolific under new manager Oliver Glasner since his appointment.

And Mateta recorded a feat that no other player in England's top flight has achieved in 27 years.

He has scored in each of Glasner's first six home league games, becoming the first player to do so in the competition since Alan Shearer for Kevin Keegan in the 1996/97 season, per Opta Joe.

The 26-year-old, who joined from Mainz 05, will be looking to extend his rich vein of form when Palace resume their league campaign on Saturday against Wolves.

Ahead of their final two games of the season, Glasner has asked his team to say humble following their huge victory over Man United.

"Congrats to the team for this win, and for this 4-0 at home to Manchester United," he said.

"I think the first-half, we didn't really play as well as we could, so it was not that consistent. In defence we opened the middle too often and they could find the pockets and we had a little bit of a problem, but we were very efficient, so we scored very nice goals.

"But, at half-time, we made two or three adaptations, the players listened again and in the second-half, we were much better and were in much more control of the game. We created a lot of chances, we scored nice goals, but we were a little bit more consistent in our basics and so it's a great win, and congrats to the team.

"Congratulations - but always stay humble. We know it is not so long ago where we struggled with relegation, just five points away, but now we've found ourselves and the players have confidence. That is what we want to read. We are doing well, but we still have a lot to improve."
