The Premier League Team of the Season is being ripped apart by fans, Bukayo Saka misses out

A number of players, including Arsenal pair Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, may feel hard done by this evening after they missed out on the Premier League's Team of the Season.

After their lengthy spell in first place this season, a total of four Arsenal players make the cut, including Aaron Ramsdale, William Saliba, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Martin Odegaard.

Mikel Arteta's side have the biggest representation in the XI followed by title rivals Manchester City, who have three inclusions – Ruben Dias, Kevin De Bruyne and of course, Erling Haaland.

Casemiro and Marcus Rashford also feature in the colours of Manchester United alongside Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, while Kieran Trippier is the only Newcastle player to make the team.

Despite scoring 18 league goals for Jurgen Klopp's side this season, Salah's inclusion has raised eyebrows amongst some supporters.

One fan said: "Saka has been robbed though. This is Team of the Season not team of the last couple of months. Saka has been more consistent than Salah and led his team to a title challenge."

Another wrote: "Salah in Team of the Season ahead of Saka is one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen," while a third commented: "How in the world is Salah in the EPL team of the season and Saka isn’t?"

A fourth added: "Wait Salah over Saka in the Premier League Team of the Season, are we watching the same football guys?"

Other names that deserve an honourable mention include Nathan Ake, who has been one of Manchester City's more consistent performers following Joao Cancelo's untimely departure.

Rodri, Gabriel Martinelli, Bruno Guimaraes and Joao Palhinha have performed admirably for their respective clubs, as has Lisandro Martinez and Sven Botman.

Brighton trio Kaoru Mitoma, Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo are also mentioned in the comments section for their contribution at the Amex.

Someone who will no doubt be surprised by Bukayo Saka's omission from the Premier League TOTS is Tony Adams.

The former Arsenal centre-back recently said England international Saka is the 'best player in the world right now besides Lionel Messi'.

"If there’s a better player in world football at the moment, someone who both scores and makes goals, the only one I can think of is Lionel Messi," the 56-year-old wrote in his column for The Sun.

"Bukayo is absolutely on fire and the reason Arsenal are top of the table."

Adams added: "Erling Haaland might be scoring hundreds of goals for Manchester City and Marcus Rashford is also having a phenomenal season for United.

"But Bukayo is, hands down, the Footballer of the Year because he was England’s best player at the World Cup and he’s been the best player for the team eight points clear at the top of the Premier League."
